This truly is the Year of the Bear. As was reported on this site, Baylor University now holds the NCAA record for most wins in a year (Football, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Baseball). Baylor Athletics' site has a special page up to commemorate this achievement.

As the #4 national seed, Baylor Baseball is the host of one of the NCAA Baseball Tournament Regional rounds this weekend. The Bears will play Oral Roberts (a team they swept earlier in the season) at 6:00 PM Friday night at the Baylor Ballpark for their first game of the double-elimination round. If you're anywhere near Waco (as yours truly will be), go out and support your Bears! In addition to the national seed, Baylor Baseball's LHP Josh Turley was named a semifinalist for the annual Golden Spikes Award. Baylor fans can support Turley by voting at the Golden Spikes Award webpage.

Last weekend Baylor Track qualified for 11 entries into national competition. Junior Everett Walker holds the team lead with two berths (one individual and one relay). The NCAA Track and Field Championships are held June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

On the basketball recruiting front, the D1 Ambassadors website is reporting that Allex Austin (San Marcos, TX) has chosen to attend Baylor as a two-sport athlete (track and field, basketball). Austin is a two-time UIL High-Jump champion and is reported to potentially compete in the Olympic Trials this summer.
