Behind a Big 12 Tournament record-tying 6 RBIs from conference POY Josh Ludy, Baylor Baseball trounced first round opponent Kansas State this afternoon 11-1 in a game that ended after seven due to college baseball's mercy rules. Josh Turley also shined on the mound, giving the Bears seven strong innings in his third complete game ever (because it was shortened, obviously).
The win also tied the NCAA record for victories in a single athletic year from the Big 4 college sports. After the football team's 10-win season capped by an Alamo Bowl victory in December, the men's basketball team's 30-win run to the Elite 8, and the women's basketball team's undefeated 40-win campaign (the first in NCAA history by a basketball team of either sex) and national championship, the baseball team's 43rd triumph of the season (most in program history for a single year) gave Baylor's combined sports 123 victories. Baylor sets its sights on a new NCAA record tomorrow at 4:00 pm against the Sooners of Oklahoma.
