SBNation Scouting Report: Baylor Target Mike Mitchell

For a while now I've been wanting to write a post focusing exclusively on Prestonwood Christian Academy, a small private school in Plano, Texas that, despite having only about 1400 students total from pre-K through the 12th grade, has three of the best recruits in the state in football and basketball. One of them is probably familiar by this point to regular readers of the blog: TE Christian Morgan. Another might be considering I've mentioned him a few times as a target of Scott Drew and Baylor Basketball: PF Julius Randle, a top-5 nationwide recruit for 2013. The third member of the Prestonwood troika, LB/DE Mike Mitchell, has flown under the radar a bit on this blog but deserves attention all on his own.

Today seems as good a day as any to give it to him due to the scouting report authored by Wescott Eberts, an SBNation Recruiting contributor, over on the mothership. Before we get too far into what Mr. Eberts has to share about Mr. Mitchell, let's check out his vital information:

SBNation Recruiting: Coverage from Wescott Eberts

As you can tell from his offer list and rankings, Mitchell is an impressive prospect indeed. For our purposes I don't have much to share; Baylor is supposedly high on his list but he has yet to name a favorite. It would no doubt help our chances if we could convince fellow PCAer Christian Morgan to become a Bear-- he and Mitchell are friends-- but I don't know if anyone has an edge in his recruitment at this point. According to Mr. Eberts, Mitchell's recruitment could be something Baylor fans want to keep an eye on.

Currently holding 14 offers, it's a bit surprising that Mitchell isn't a hotter national prospect since he can fill a team's need at any linebacker position and defensive end. Though Mitchell is a Florida native who grew up a fan of the Gators and does hold an offer from his childhood favorite, there has been increasing speculation that he's interested in staying in the state of Texas, where Baylor, TCU, and Texas A&M may be the favorites, with interest from Texas that could eventually lead to an offer and the Longhorns inserting themselves into the mix.

Check out the article I linked above for more about Mitchell the player. I'll also put his youtube highlight video below the jump here in case anyone wants to watch it without leaving the friendly confines.
