Welcome back to the DBR dear readers after a few days off. I've got quite a few links to share with you this evening covering everything from Baylor Basketball's big comeback win last night in Austin to the Lady Bears clinching the outright Big XII title tonight in Waco against the Heifers. Before we get there, we've got a few housekeeping notes to get out of the way.
First and foremost, I'd like to introduce everyone to ODB's newest contributor, mileskelly! Miles will be focusing on Baylor Baseball, which started their season this past weekend against Oral Robert in kitchen-cleaning fashion. His first offering to the ODB masses detailed the Bears' strong start. Please join me in welcoming Miles to the board!
Second, I have a bit of crow to eat after last night's game; Scott Drew did as good a coaching job as we've ever seen from him against Texas, particularly in the second half. With Baylor down 36-26 at the half, Drew switched things up defensively by going man-to-man, pulled Perry Jones III away from the basket on offense to get him going, and substituted offense for defense whenever possible in the closing minutes. With Pierre Jackson and Brady Heslip in foul trouble late, Drew called on true freshman Deuce Bello to guard the explosive J'Covan Brown, and Bello responded with probably his best performance defensively to date. Baylor outscored Texas 51-36 as a team in the second half in overcoming a double-digit deficit despite missing freshman star Quincy Miller. Baylor was as good in the second half as we've seen them in a while; the only comparable stretch came against an outgunned and overmatched Iowa State. I was really impressed. Last night would have been a really easy game to lose.
Let's get to the links below the jump!
