Baylor Football's been in the news for something other than playing Oklahoma State (though they're doing that this weekend). SportsIllustrated has been accused of changing the color of the jersey worn on the November 17th win over Kansas State. The Bears wore gold-black-gold-black accessories for that game, seen in the picture for this DBR, but the picture printed in the magazine showed a green jersey, gold pant combination. Uni-Watch's Paul Lukas opines on the debacle here, though for once I don't agree with him on black jerseys. I happen to like Baylor's black jerseys. The major sports news outlet's predictions for Baylor's bowl game seem to think we'll be returning to Houston over the break, and I tend to agree with them.
Also happening this Saturday in an hour that starts with 11 is Baylor men's basketball's game against Kentucky in Kentucky. After a narrow loss to the College of Charleston without sharpshooter Brady Heslip, the Bears hope to rebound against one of the top teams in the country, albeit one who hasn't looked like themselves recently. Heslip returns this Saturday and might be the key cog in the talented-but-inconsistent Baylor team offense.
Baylor Soccer's Dana Larsen was named the 2012 Capital One Academic All-American of the Year for collegiate women's soccer yesterday, and becomes only the second Baylor athlete to earn such honors. Larsen, as well as being a key member of the Big 12 Champion Baylor team, maintains a 4.0 average in Biochemistry. Lisa Sliwinski was also recognized on the Academic All-American team for her 3.81 average in biology. Both Larsen and Sliwinski helped the Bears to a program best 19-1-5 record and are respectively 5th and 4th on the Baylor all-time scoring list with 29 and 30 goals each.
