With Halloween being officially past, I guess it's time to roll out the Christmas decorations, or at least that's what the stores want me to think. Well, except for the fact that it's time for some green and gold, because it's Homecoming!
Second seeded and 14th-ranked Baylor Soccer routed Oklahoma State 3-0yesterday in the first round of the Big 12 Championship tournament. This win both marks the first time the Bears have defeated the Cowgirls since 2001 and the first time they have won a tournament game since 2000. Senior Dana Larsen had an assist for the first two goals and scored the third one herself, and both she and senior Lisa Sliwinski remain tied for third on Baylor's all-time scoring list, with 24 career goals each. The Bears play third-seed Texas Tech at 8:00 PM on Friday, and are looking for their first ever title-match slot.
With the Baylor Lady Bears returning their entire starting lineup from last year and bringing in some very talented freshmen, the rest of the Big 12 is seemingly fighting for second, opines The Washington Post in their preview of Big 12 women's basketball. Of course, way to tell us things we already new, WaPo.
This weekend the very-stoppable force will meet the totally moveable object with Kansas' offense facing the Baylor defense. The most the Jayhawks have scored in conference play is 17 points. I'm betting they'll top that, however, Baylor's offense will hopefully show up fixed and ready to make some more of Art Briles' gambles pay off, the way they usually do.
Homecoming Festivities start tonight with the crowning of the Homecoming Queen at "club night" of Pigskin Revue, and continue tomorrow with the Extravaganza on Fountain Mall and the Homecoming Pep Rally and Bonfire later tomorrow night. If you want to see the Heisman Trophy up close and personal, it will be on display at the SUB from 3:00 to 10:00 PM tomorrow. The traditional Homecoming Parade will begin at 8:30 AM and feature 163 entries, including 11 floats and Baylor alum and Texas Rangers outfielder (Golden Glove nominee) David Murphy will be the grand marshal of the parade. Kickoff for the Homecoming game will be at 2:30 PM. I know I'll be there, will you?
