Daily Bears Report 04.24.2013

Baylor Baseball won their sixth straight game last night, coming back from a one run deficit to win 9-5. Crayton Bare picked up the win after pitching two hitless and scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Sterling Wynn struck out five in three innings, one of his better starts despite giving up 2 runs in the first. The Bears return home to face conference foe Texas this weekend, with the first game of that series slated to start at 6:30 PM on Friday.

14th-ranked Baylor Softball split a televised doubleheader with Houston yesterday, winning game one 4-1 before dropping game two 5-3. The Lady Bears honored West before and during the game with a special design on the outfield. Baylor has finished their non-conference schedule, and will start the last seven regular season games with a three games series against Kansas this weekend.

Bryce Petty isn't the only new QB in the Big 12 this year, though he may be one of the more experienced of all the relative newbies. Petty's also had two great quarterbacks in front of him, and hopes to continue the new Baylor tradition of great leadership.

Baylor Tennis swept the Big 12 Player of the Week awards, with Patrick Pradella and Ema Burgic winning their respective weekly honors for their parts in winning two Big 12 titles the past week. Men's tennis also landed Marko Krickovic and Diego Galeano on the Academic All-Big 12 team, being named to the first and second team respectively.

The Big 12 Men's Golf Championship was snowed out of their second day of play in Kansas, shortening the tournament to 54 holes. Baylor is currently in fourth place with four holes left in the second round, 16 shots behind Texas, who leads the field.

The 2013 seniors from the Baylor Lady Bears were honored at the WBB Banquet last night, as well the presentation of other team awards. Brittney Griner and Odyssey Sims shared the 2012-2013 Most Valuable Player awards, and Brooklyn Pope won the Most Improved Player award.

The brand new Carlile Equestrian Team Building was dedicated yesterday, giving new locker, meeting, office, and organizational space to the regularly top-ranked Baylor Equestrian team.

Finally, if you're on campus today, some of the vendors from the Waco Farmer's Market will be in the plaza next to the SUB from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM today! Fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as bread and other products, will be for sale, and campus health and environmental organizations will also have booths set up. Also in campus news: I totally agree that we should have puppies available to students during finals.

Note: Here is the Baylor press release if you are planning on attending the West First Responder Memorial this Thursday at the Ferrell Center.
