Final: Iowa State 35, Baylor 21.

Matthew Holst

The absolute worst-case scenario for the 2012 season is now upon us. Tonight's loss puts Baylor at 3-4 (0-4) with little, if any, chance to make a bowl.

I thought I was disappointed in this team after last week's loss to Texas. I didn't even know what disappointment was. 2012 has been an absolute disaster for our football team, and tonight epitomized exactly how bad things could get. 2011 is lost. The Year of the Bear is dead.

Tonight, we saw the first true dropoff from 2011 in an offense that actually contributed far more to the loss than the defense, which obviously had its own struggles. When we needed points we couldn't get them. When we had a chance to keep the game close in the first half and third quarter we couldn't do it. Losing to Iowa State was 100% a team effort.

Oh, and hats off to Fox Sports Southwest for the portion of the game in the third quarter when they completely lost their signal from Ames. I didn't realize that was even possible in the era of instant communication, satellite uplink trucks, and portable generators. Well-played, Fox. You totally did not look like a third-rate group unfit for major conference play.

I can't be too mad, though, because neither did we. We're taking a 4-game losing streak into Homecoming against Kansas to decide the worst team in the Big 12! You loved 2003 the first time around, right?
