One of the perks of writing for ODB with no official gig is that I can write whatever I want whenever I want.
Unfortunately because I'm sort of a lazy kid this means I haven't written my second Coach's Profile like I was planning. I'll try to make that a weekly series (most likely posting Saturdays) starting this week for those of you who enjoyed the first one. Stay tuned.
But back to writing whatever I want. Today I was listening to Kanye West's song Power which is one of my favorites. For some reason, when I heard the line "Screams from the haters got a nice ring to it. I guess every superhero needs his theme music." I thought of matching songs to Baylor athletes. They're basically superheroes right? Well, hear it goes.
Bryce Petty, the best quarterback this side of the Mississippi. Breaking hearts and throwing touchdowns. And eating waffles at midnight. If you're reading this you probably know the dude has skills. For his theme song, Ready, Aim, Fire by Imagine Dragons. You know, cause he throws a football like a machine. Much accuracy.
The best wide receiver on our team and possibly the entire country. You can't hold him. His theme song is Can't Hold Us by Macklemore.
Baylor's 6'9" defensive end. What a beast of a human being. His theme song should be something that speaks to the power and aggression he plays with. My choice: Jungle by Jamie N Commons & X Ambassadors
Another Baylor giant. Rico is a fan favorite on the Baylor Men's Basketball team. You see him coming down the lane just get out of his way. For evidence:
His theme song: Move B***h by Ludacris
Some of you may not be familiar with Swaggy C but his Twitter and Instagram accounts are 2 of the most interesting to follow among BU athletes. He's a Center on the Men's Shootyhoops Squad who has been sidelined by injuries thus far in his career. However, that hasn't stopped him from being one of the coolest athletes around. Dude's wardrobe is, as the kids say, "on point". His theme song: Flawless by Beyoncé. *sort of NSFW, just a little.
The Canadian 3 point heartthrob. Making the ladies swoon and defenders scratch their heads. I know he's technically no longer a Baylor athlete but this is more of a shout out to one of my friends who is in love with the guy (but I ain't naming no names). His theme song: Sexy Boy. That's right HBK's theme song from the WWF.
After the departure of Odyssey Sims, Davis is now the best player on the Women's Basketball team. Her freshman season would seem to indicate that she can handle that responsibility. She had numerous double doubles and even a 30 point game or two. Her theme song: Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys.
Although Caswell redshirted her freshman season on the Volleyball team she probably had a larger fanbase than any other volleyball player. Especially among the BU boys. If you don't understand why... well... have you seen her? Her theme song: Fancy by Iggy Azalea.
Baylor's resident track star. She's one of the top distance runners in the country. Needless to say, her theme song: I Can Go the Distance from Hercules.
How could I leave him out of this? RG3 is one of the people most responsible for turning around Baylor sports. The guy is already a legend in Waco. I mean they don't make sandwich statues out of just anyone. Anyway it was too hard to just give him one theme song so I'm giving him two. He deserves it right? They are Power by Kanye West and The Man by Aloe Blacc.
There are obviously a lot more Baylor athletes and probably a zillion more songs to pick from so feel free to leave your idea for a Baylor athlete's theme song in the comments. Stay tuned for more fanposts from me.
Shout out to the homies KimboSmash and Mathew Tennant.
