At Our Daily Bears there is a grumbling about how the online bloggers on ESPN and most other major networks seemingly target their blogs to fans of Oklahoma University Sooners and the University of Texas Longhorns. I shared this growing discontent until today. Almost as if I was walking down the road with St. Paul when he was blinded by the light I am reminded of these words: "Why do you kick amongst the pricks." I get it. I hope that both of these Big 12 flagship schools don't lose any games for the rest of the season, or forever, with the exception of when each of these legends meet Baylor. Yes, legends! Mention the names Darrell Royal or Barry Switzer and every football fan over the age of 50 knows exactly what school they coached. Mention the name of Baylor University’s former head football coach Grant Teaff and the majority of those same fans will say Grant who? Did you say Cary Grant? Let those legends grow like the Redwoods in California. When these legends come crashing down the thud will always be heard from coast to coast. It has already been shouted out by Baylor while in California for the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl, that "Baylor Nation is alive and well in California" - as UCLA head coach Jim Mora will confirm without hesitation. I wish both schools could go 12-1 every year with that single loss being to Baylor. Sic ‘em Bears! Go Sooners! Hook-em-Horns! Bob Stoops, lets see some football up there! Mack Brown, quit fartin' around and reclaim that birthright to 10+ win seasons! I mean, if there ain’t no mountain to climb, what the heck is the use of having all that climbing equipment. And yes, I’m talking now about the Nation’s No. 1 college football offense, the Baylor Bears. Why such optismism? Two words: I believe. You know, great athletic programs don’t happen overnight. They evolve over decades. They are built to last. Baylor University has been slowly rebuilding for a long time now. You can see physical evidence of Baylor’s rebuilding program, such as the gold domed basketball and indoor sports arena, the Hires Athletic Center and now the new football stadium. But there are other signs such as the hiring of coaches Kim Mulkey, Scott Drew and Art Briles. Baylor is not just building a great athletic program, Baylor is building a character that you can know and trust. The continued rise and success of all of Baylor’s athletic programs is unparalleled. This type of success only comes from doing things because you know it is the right thing to do. This is not only what Baylor is teaching but demonstrating by example. Lets not go begging for crumbs, lets be glad that were opening a bakery.
