Every power ranking of Texas FBS teams I've seen this season has had the Texas A&M Aggies ranked #1. From preseason till now, Baylor has been found anywhere from 2nd to 4th in these rankings. Up until this week, I didn't necessarily disagree with the Ags' position in those rankings.
However, today is a new day. Last night's shellacking of West Virginia by the Bruins of Baylor has changed things. While most pundits expected Baylor to pull away from WV at some point in the second half, in reality the game was over before the 1st quarter was. I saw it in the faces of West Virginia fans in attendance; I saw it in the body language and facial expressions of their head coach Dana Holgerson as he scanned his play chart looking for something to help his offense.
Texas A&M does have a dynamic quarterback and wide receiver, but no where near the plethora of weapons that Baylor has: QB Petty, RBs Seastrunk and Martin, WRs Goodley and Reese, and a dominating O-line. While Baylor's defense has much to prove at this point, so does A&M's. Baylor's offensive productivity more than makes up for any defensive blemishes.
Baylor is the most dominating, complete and scary team in the great State of Texas and should be in the top position on every Texas (and Big XII) power ranking starting today.
