There is a great tradition in college football of assigning a nickname or catchphrase to the most unique and/or mystic filled stadium venues in the sport.
We all know them and accept them as alternatives for the names "officially" assigned to them by the respective institutions (or alums) that built them. "The Swamp", "Death Valley", "The Horseshoe", "The Big House" and "Between The Hedges" are all great examples.
See what I mean--each when used, evokes an immediate image of the program and the stadium to every knowledgeable college football fan.
So, the question I put before our "ODB regulars" here, is this.
Does ODB have enough clout and power now, that would allow us to originate and subsequently develop a groundswell for the adoption of a moniker of our choosing--for our new cutting edge home for your (and my) Baylor Bears? I say unequivocally YES!!
Assuming there are many others on the board who agree and want to participate--lets kick-off the process by soliciting suggestions from posters here--then subsequently voting between a few of the best candidates (as selected and determined by the ODB staff). And then, get behind the winner by spreading the name across Baylor Nation.
Having given a few minutes of consideration in developing nominees of my own, I begin by offering the following:
1) "AREA 35" (the 35 taken from the numeric designation of the adjacent interstate highway)
1A) "AREA 45" (the 45 taken from the founding year of BU--1845)
These are obvious plays on "Area 51" and are offered to emphasize the image for which Baylor football is fast becoming known:
a) the "speed" --the likes of which the college football world now admits it has never seen,
b) the "mystery"-- that our offense represents to opposing defensive coordinators'
c) the "look" -- and I know you know what I mean (hint--chrome gold/black)!!
As we have seen, there is plenty of creativity here at ODB--this is just a start--so let the best name win!!!!
