It’s time to realize this Brady Heslip isn’t the same guy who played last year. He is now just .363 from the floor and only .346 on 3-pointers. [Texas (overtime win) 3’s: 1 of 5, no assists; Colorado (loss) 3’s: 1 of 5, no assists, 1 rebound; Gonzaga (loss) 3’s: 1 of 5, 2 assists, 1 rebound; He was 2 of 5 on 3’s in the loss to Northwestern with 1 assist & 2 rebounds; Heslip DNP in the College of Charleston game (Gary Franklin took his place, going 1-5 from beyond the arch!)]. Heslip has a pathetic 12 assists in his 12 games…that’s 7 fewer that Isaiah Austin, 46 fewer than AJ Walton and 69 less than Pierre Jackson!
By comparison, in 2011-12, Heslip shot an amazing .455 percentage both from 3 point range and for his overall field goal percentage. His play in big games helped to propel BU into the Elite Eight during the tournament. But that was then & this is now….
Heslip needs to spend a lot more time in the gym. And Drew must reduce Heslip’s minutes in favor of guys who can help this team win—we’re now in Big 12 competition. Let’s face reality, if Heslip is no longer able to shoot "lights out," he does not possess other athletic skills (defense, assists, rebounding, steals) to justify 29 minutes a game.
