It's difficult to understand BU's up & down play the past two years. Big wins & big losses (score last night's game vs. TCU has a pathetic win).
Unfortunately, I believe the problem to be with coach Drew (for the record, I LOVE OUR COACH). Drew is a great recruiter. Drew is a very good offensive coach. But, Drew's own personality appears to be reflected in his teams. Nice. Smart. Not aggressive. Not tenacious. We have, for the past two seasons, been a lousy defensive team. We bring more athleticism AND more height in the back court than our competitors, yet we are ALWAYS the weaker defensive team. That was the most apparent in the games against Missouri last year, where we had a great height advantage with Miller, Jones, Acy, and Jefferson off the bench. (Acy played with heart and was the only exception last year, just like Udoh the year before, and, perhaps Gathers this year.)
Until, BU adapts a shut down, "we will foul you if you come in our paint," we are the team to beat---Attitude & Confidence-- similar to what we saw in the last two NCAA Tournaments, we fans will continue to beat our heads against the wall during games with Northwestern, College of Charleston, and TCU.
If & when Coach Drew can move from a "nice team" to a "shut down-beat down team," look for this talent-laden team to return to the Elite Eight....or beyond.
