12/12 Daily Bears Report: Let's. Have. A Real Good. Time. Let's have a real good time.
We're starting another work week here at ODB and unlike the last, we won't have endless Heisman speculation to use as story fodder. Dang it. We're going to have to actually get creative. Or something. Maybe I'll post a few more pictures of things that I like because I can. Oh, I don't see YOU throwing up incredible fanposts!*
*If you want to, though, have at it.
Anyway, the links today are going to be quite short, as I assume everyone is pretty Heisman'd out at this point.
- One thing I did find that was interesting was a comparison between Terrelle Pryor and Robert Griffin III now that all of the cards are on the table. I don't know how many of you reading this are members of a Rivals board, but the main board that year had a vociferous and violent debate about which of the two was better. The Ohio State people were numerous, loud, and unshakable in their conviction that Pryor was a golden god.
- SBNation's home site has a new mock draft up today that I'm going to link to but not really talk about. Let's just say that if this ends up happening, there will be many broken items in my home. Many. And lots of soul-searching.
- Bill Connelly devised a ranking system for each of the hires so far in CFB (at least the arguably important ones). I can't say that I disagree with his rankings at all, actually. He has them in the order I'd have them, though his scores to Kevin Sumlin are probably on the low side for my tastes. And his scores for Charlie Weis are too high. Just a baffling, baffling hire by Kansas.
- Turning to our upcoming game vs. Washington for a moment, Steve Sarkisian says that facing Robert Griffin III won't motivate him. I can understand that. You typically don't want to give too much attention to the best player in college football. That's exactly what they expect for you to do!
- I'm going to assume that Sarkisian didn't actually say that, though, because then this article talking about how to plan for RGIII doesn't make a whole lot of sense. "RGIII plays for Baylor" Steve Sarkisian didn't say. "News to me. I guess I should use google sometime or something."
- The KC SBNation regional site has a preview up of the Big XII conference schedule and their prediction for how the teams shake out. Baylor's men play at least one game this week that we'll cover in more detail in due time, and I have been told that RGIII will attend and be recognized on Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center. EVERYONE SHOULD GO. SERIOUSLY.
- Our WBB, which is undefeated just like the MBB (only school in the country that can say that), continued their impressive early run in beating St. John's yesterday at Madison Square Garden in NYC. The game was closer than expected at halftime, but the Lady Bears pulled away with a big run early in the second half and then coasted to another victory.
- Rumor has it that Baylor is receiving new helmets and uniforms for the Alamo Bowl against Washington. The rumor inside of that rumor is that the uniforms will be Nike Pro Combat. I tweeted a leaked picture last night of ONE of the proposed helmets being considered. I'll post it in the comments below for people to say what they think about it.

Pro Combat, eh?
I’m scared and excited all at once….

Pro Combat did the TCU Rose Bowl helmets, I believe.
Seriously might be my favorite helmet design ever.

Ugh. Redskins would be the absolute worst case scenario.
Awful. Though Cleveland would be almost as bad.

Woah.
Did you see that mock had Kendall Wright at 25 to the Broncos and referenced him being used in the same mold as Percy Harvin???

Too painful.

I'm thinking that Blackmon will likely be gone
and Carolina will be in an excellent spot to sell that pick. It would be shocking if none of Barkley, RGIII or Landry Jones came out and everybody knows that the Redskins are going to want a QB.
Seriously, though, Cleveland might be worse. At least Washington has the framework at hand for RGIII to be a successful NFL QB in order to build his publicity for his eventual Presidential run.

Man, he's been making the rounds this morning.
My father-in-law texted me to say he was on CNN this morning.

That Pryor vs RGIII piece is fascinating.
Griffin progressed every year, improved as a passer, flourished in an offensive system that was more wide-open than anything Pryor every played in, and gave himself the chance to be great.
Mark and I talked at the beginning of the year what we would like to see from RGIII development-wise this year, and he met all of those things. It’s interesting to me how much he has improved each season.
I remember Stewart Mandel writing a couple years ago that RGIII was the fastest QB in the country and then having to deal with Ohio State fans who were pissed off that anybody could dis their QB like that. Mandel had to point out that RGIII was an actual track champion at such a young age, but I have a feeling that he still got hate mail.

NICE!
That is not what you linked last night, but much better.
I’ve been hoping like crazy that they would give us some version of Sparty’s Pro Combat unis.

I would break into the Baylor athletic complex and steal one of these helmets.
And then keep it forever.

I have been told that this is just a mockup done by a fan of what they would want our helmet to look like.
Not necessarily a design under consideration.
That sucks.

Dang.
Seriously, though, this isn’t hard. Just take Sparty’s ProCombat, remove Spartan, add BU in same color.

Do they give them gift bags of money
or just let them grab as much as they can from the trashbags of money out back? Seems like the linemen would have an unfair advantage…then again, UT probably should be giving them an advantage given their recent OL play.

Please note
that this was a joke and not intended to actually suggest that UT is paying it’s players.

I don't think it is.
It just helps further the notion that UT/LHN is trying to create an unfair playing field.

There are rules regarding what type of things you're allowed to do on official visits
Like giving personalized jerseys, photoshopping recruits into multimedia in your uniforms, things like that. I would be willing to bet anything that the LHN doesn’t just let these kids walk around without showing them a few things.

my question is
is it an “extra benefit” those recruits get?
to me, and my very limited understanding of the rules, that is what the violation would hinge on, right?
personalized jerseys, recruits into multimedia, etc are not going to be open to all students i would think
that said, if it isnt an “extra benefit” — is it illegal?

Considering ESPN is in Bristol and UConn is in Storrs, I doubt it.

ESPN's new MBB poll is out.
Baylor is 7 again, Mizzou climbs from 10 to 8 and Kansas goes from 13 to 12.
Mizzou is pretty interesting; they are somewhat unexpectedly having a very good year and helping the Big12 look good in what should be something of a down year. They have beaten Notre Dame, #18 Cal and Villanova. Not bad.
The only other ranked Big12 team is #22 A&M, who goes to #13 Florida this week.
